I have lived in Clay Center for 40+ years. It is a small town with some of the "small town" sterotypes, but over all it is great. People are friendly and we have many of the community activities...band concert in the park Wednesday nights during the summer; 4th of July celebrations, and our founders day celebration "Piotique" every Septemeber and much more to bring people together. If there is a tragic death, or life threatening illness and the family suffers from financial burdens, the community will come together to raise money to help.
It isn't without it's drawbacks. We still have crime and drugs/alcohol are a problem too, but not to the extent as you have in the bigger cities. We don't have violent crimes every day.
We currently have a housing shortage in the way of rental property but there are other properties to buy.
Come visit us sometime....we have a place for you!
